Starting from Luxor means the big days come first. Karnak and Luxor Temple on the afternoon you board, the Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut the next morning, and only then do you settle into the river. By the time you reach Edfu and Kom Ombo you have found the rhythm of it, and Aswan at the end is the gentlest part of the trip rather than a scramble before a flight.
It is also a night longer than the Aswan-to-Luxor route, and that night is the difference between seeing Luxor and rushing it. Luxor holds more standing monuments than anywhere else on earth; one afternoon is not enough for it.

A Nile cruise is a floating hotel. Your cabin is yours, exactly as a hotel room would be, and the restaurant, lounge, sun deck and pool are shared with the other guests on board — that is how every cruise ship on the Nile works.

Meals are included as listed for each day of the itinerary. When onboard, meals are served in the cruise restaurant according to the sailing schedule.

Luxor to Aswan is four nights; the reverse is three. The extra night is spent in Luxor at the start, which is where you need it — Luxor has more to see than any other stop on the river, and the three-night route gives it a single afternoon. Sail this way if Luxor matters to you or if your flights fit it. Sail the other way if you are short of days, or if you are carrying on to Abu Simbel afterwards.
