This zone covers a long stretch of coast
Unlike the marina at Port Ghalib or the single bay at Coraya, the hotels south of the airport are spread along a genuine stretch of coastline. The drive is 20 minutes to the nearest of them and around 40 minutes to the furthest, so this is the zone where knowing your exact hotel matters most.
The price is the same wherever in the zone you are staying, but the pickup time is not. Give us your hotel name when you book and we will set the collection time to suit your hotel rather than the zone average.
You are staying next to the turtle bays
Abu Dabbab is one of the two shallow seagrass bays on this coast where green turtles and dugongs feed, and several of the hotels in this zone sit directly on or beside it. If you are staying here you are closer to the best snorkelling in Marsa Alam than guests anywhere else on the coast.
Two things worth knowing. You do not need a diving certificate — the seagrass sits in a few metres of water and a mask and snorkel are enough. And mornings are considerably better than afternoons, in every month of the year, because the water is calmer and the animals are easier to find before the bay is stirred up.
Arriving on a charter flight
Most arrivals into Marsa Alam are charter flights from Europe, and they tend to land in waves — several aircraft within the same hour, then nothing for a long stretch. Passport control and baggage claim can take a while when three flights land together.
