Southern Red Sea

Wild reefs and turquoise bays.

Marsa Alam is Egypt's most pristine Red Sea destination — famous for dolphin encounters at Sataya Reef, dugongs at Marsa Mubarak and empty stretches of desert coastline.

Our private experiences here focus on wildlife, snorkelling and quiet beach days, always with fully private boats and transfers.

Why visit

Why travellers choose Marsa Alam

  • "Satayah reef holds one of the most reliable resident dolphin populations in the Red Sea
  • Marsa Mubarak is one of the few places you can snorkel with dugongs
  • Reefs here see a fraction of the traffic of the northern resorts
  • Elphinstone reef is a world-class drift dive within reach of the shore
  • Almost no light pollution, which makes the night sky extraordinary"
Best time to visit

When to go

Year-round, with March to May and September to November the most comfortable. Water temperatures stay between 24 and 29°C. Summer is very hot on land but excellent underwater, and the dolphins at Satayah are present throughout the year. Winter is mild and quiet, with water around 23°C — a thin wetsuit is worth having.

Travel tips

Good to know

  • "Dolphin encounters are wild, not guaranteed — go early and choose an operator that keeps its distance
  • Marsa Alam airport is close to most resorts, so transfers are short
  • Reef-safe sunscreen only; the reefs here are in unusually good condition and worth protecting
  • Bring everything you need — shops and pharmacies are sparse outside the resorts
  • Elphinstone is for experienced divers only, in currents that can be strong"
