Closer to Luxor than Hurghada is
The road from Luxor reaches the Red Sea at Safaga, and Soma Bay is the first resort area you come to heading north — before Makadi Bay, before Sahl Hasheesh, and about an hour before Hurghada city.
That surprises people who assume everything on this coast is measured from Hurghada. If you are combining Luxor with a Red Sea stay and Soma Bay is on your list, it is the shortest transfer of the group.
The road
The route runs from the Nile valley across the Eastern Desert to the coast. The desert section is open and empty, with very little settlement and long stretches without services — mobile signal is unreliable, so download anything you need before setting off, and we plan the rest stop rather than looking for one.
Soma Bay itself sits on a peninsula, so the final approach turns off the coast road onto the resort access road.
Travel permits — included, and handled for you
Transfers that cross a governorate boundary in Egypt require a travel permit arranged in advance. Luxor to Soma Bay crosses one.
