Tours & Experiences in Alexandria

Alexandria Tours.

Discover Alexandria, Egypt's legendary Mediterranean city, where ancient Egyptian, Greek and Roman history meet the sea. Explore the impressive Qaitbay Citadel, the mysterious Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, Pompey's Pillar and the modern Bibliotheca Alexandrina while experiencing the unique atmosphere of one of Egypt's most historic cities.

Mediterranean Egypt

Egypt's Mediterranean capital.

Alexandria is one of Egypt's most fascinating destinations, combining ancient history, Mediterranean scenery and a distinctly different atmosphere from Cairo and the Nile Valley. Founded by Alexander the Great in 331 BC, the city became the capital of Ptolemaic Egypt and developed into one of the most important centers of culture, learning and commerce in the ancient Mediterranean

Why visit

Why travellers choose Alexandria

  • "Qaitbay Citadel occupies the exact site of the ancient Pharos lighthouse
  • The catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa mix Egyptian, Greek and Roman funerary art underground
  • The Bibliotheca Alexandrina is a modern answer to the library that was lost
  • The Roman amphitheatre at Kom El Dikka is the only one of its kind in Egypt
  • Seafood on the corniche is the best in the country"
Best time to visit

When to go

April to June and September to November are the most pleasant, with sea breezes keeping temperatures moderate. Summer is warm but far more bearable than Cairo or Luxor, which is why Egyptians come here in August. Winter is cool and can be genuinely wet — Alexandria gets more rain than the rest of Egypt combined, and storms occasionally close the corniche.

Travel tips

Good to know

  • "The drive from Cairo takes about three hours each way, so start early
  • The Bibliotheca closes on some public holidays — check before building a day around it
  • Bring a light jacket between November and March; the sea wind is sharper than expected
  • Book a seafood lunch at the harbour rather than leaving it to chance
  • Two days lets you do it properly, but one long day covers the essentials"
